THE FLOWERING OF LOVE LABYRINTH

The first work of art to be completed in our visiting artist program is the Flowering of Love Labyrinth by renowned fabric artist Meryl Ann Butler. It is a beautiful personal-size labyrinth with delicately painted roses and flowers. And a few surprises. Meryl Ann has quite a bit to say about this piece, as you will find below. The cost is $1,950, half of which goes to the artist. Click here for more information about our artists and our guest artists.

A professional artist since 1974, Meryl Ann has been working with the healing power of art since 1982. She has been building labyrinths and offering labyrinth workshops since 1992. The Flowering of Love labyrinth is Meryl Ann’s first fine art painted canvas labyrinth. The Flowering of Love series labyrinths may be custom ordered from Labyrinth Enterprises in a choice of colors, such as peach or lavender-colored roses. Every labyrinth is lovingly handcrafted. When Meryl Ann receives a commission, she consults with the client about specific energies to intentionally direct into the artwork during the creation process. When she creates a labyrinth in situations where she does not know who the future owner is, she prayerfully asks Spirit to fine tune the energies for the future owners.

Art is not a luxury! It is an
essential food-stuff for the Soul.”

This is clearly one-of-a-kind, but at the same time, commissions are possible to repeat this or a similar design in, say, calla lilies or some other flower or theme. We hope to give our guest artists the opportunity to make more than one labyrinth. Pricing will be determined. You may contact Robert or Meryl Ann for more information. .What is the healing power of art, color and symbols?

Two luminaries in the field of healing, Florence Nightingale and Edgar Cayce, were well aware of the power that colors, symbols and art can wield in the healing process. In 1860, Nightingale said. “The effect in sickness, of beautiful objects, and especially of brilliancy of color, is hardly appreciated at all. People say the effect is only on the mind. It is no such thing. The effect is on the body, too. As little as we know about the way in which we are affected by form, by color and light, we do know this, that they have an actual physical effect. Variety of form, and brilliance of color in objects presented to the patients are an actual means of recovery.”

In 1927, Edgar Cayce, the famous American clairvoyant who gave nearly 9,000 medically-related psychic readings, said, “...the body mentally — and the body in its nerve reaction — would respond as quickly to color forces as it would to medicinal properties...”

Colors, symbols and art have tremendous power. The vibrations of colors are real - the blind are able to differentiate between colors by touch. These subtle vibratory rates can have a profound impact. For example, the dismal Blackfriars Bridge in London was the site of many suicides, and the city searched for a solution. When they repainted the bridge green, the color of balance, hope and healing, the suicide rate suddenly dropped significantly.

Groups of musical notes can produce either glorious melodies or dissonance. Similarly, the different vibrations of colors and forms, in relationship with each other, can create either discord or harmony, affecting us in deep and significant ways.

So, as an artist exploring the relationship of art, colors, symbols and healing for the last 25 years, and as a labyrinth builder since 1992, it was a natural for me to weave these elements into a fine art labyrinth, The Flowering of Love Labyrinth.

The Flowering of Love Labyrinth is art, painted on canvas in the tradition of the old masters. I believe that the consciousness of thought that I focus upon – the vibrations of love and joy - pass through the paintbrush into the fabric, enhancing the intrinsic power of the labyrinth design and becoming a reservoir from which those who walk the labyrinth can fill their cups.

This 12’ x 12’ heart-shaped personal labyrinth features a garden of blooming roses. The colors and symbolism have been selected purposefully. The predominant pinks and greens are the colors of the higher octave of love, and of healing, respectively. This labyrinth design was developed using numbers and images that are rich with symbolic meaning.

The paths of The Flowering of Love Labyrinth are 13” wide. The reason thirteen was selected is because it is the number of the divine feminine, as there are thirteen full moons per year. (In ancient times there were thirteen months, also – the word “month” was a contraction of “moonth”, i.e. one full cycle of the moon.)

This labyrinth has three circuits or concentric rings. The number three is symbolic of the world of three dimensions, and also of the triune aspects of divinity.

The heart center is 52” high by 52” wide. 52” was selected because it is the product of 4 x 13. Four represents foundations, structure and stability.

65 roses in varying stages of blooming are depicted in light and shadow as if the light source that illuminates them comes from the center of the heart-shaped labyrinth. The quantity of 65 was selected because it is the product of 5 x 13. Five is the number of change, of sensory experience and of work with the hands.

There are seven turns in this labyrinth’s path, and each turn is subtly decorated with an appropriate chakra/rainbow color, beginning with red on the first turn, and ending with violet at the last, fuller turn just before entering the center.

The center of The Flowering of LoveLabyrinth features a subtly opalescent heart design that seems to emit luminescence. When the lights are turned off, there is a surprise! The Flowering of Love labyrinth glows in the dark for a mysterious and magical walking experience, symbolic of the fact that it only takes one candle to dispel the darkness.

Walking this labyrinth offers an opportunity for kinesthetic understanding of the symbolism of the heart and blooming roses. When we walk the labyrinth, our souls receive information from the soles of the feet, which are under the standing.

The Flowering of Love Labyrinth offers an invitation to all those who are dancing with the mysteries of love in all of its forms, including anyone wanting to:

. . . Enhance a romantic partnership or loving friendship
. . . Heal relationships with loved ones
. . . Open the channels for receiving the abundant flow of love and joy
. . . Create an extraordinary environment for ritual such as weddings and baptisms
. . . Expand the personal journey on the road to opening heart spaces
. . . Empower “the greatest love of all….learning to love yourself.”

Healing through art, colors and symbols happens through conscious intention when the dynamic dance of creativity nourishes the soul and elevates the spirit. With open arms and open heart, I invite you to experience The Flowering of Love Labyrinth.

Love,

MAB
